The Access Central Luminance Contrast Assessment Tool (LCAT) allows the user to enter in the LRVs, or Luminance Reflective Values, of multiple different products or paint colours and instantly see if the results comply. If one product/paint doesn’t work, well, you can enter in 8 difference combinations until one does comply.

Paint companies will generally supply the LRVs for their paint range, but you might need to ask them.

You can see an example of this can work in a real application in this example.

You can also source the LRVs from each supplier of building products, such as stair nosing strips, tactile ground surface indicators, signage, and the like and they should issue a certificate detailing the LRV of each product/paint.

Please read the certificates carefully to ensure you’ve received the correct one.
